Goodbye to The Whitsundays

We anchor outside of Airlie Marina and book to go in but the marina informs us that the next free fuel spot is in an hour, so we wait and finally head in to refuel an hour later.  Mingo happy now that she is no longer thirsty and its time for us to head over to the shops to restock.  The lady in Airlie Marina was so helpful this trip and gave us all sorts of information.  Shame we weren’t given the advice last stop here.  We went for a 500m walk up to Coles, had a bite to eat and noticed a caravan park for showers tomorrow.

Tuesday 11th Sept.  Up and rearing to go and have shower.  The $5 they charge each of us to use their amenities does not seem to bad and we feel very refreshed and clean now before grabbing a coffee and back to Mingo.

Its suppose to be 20 knots out there again today, but its so calm around, not sure what Mr. weather forecaster has been looking at for today, because its more like 5 knots.  We motor out of Airlie (Abell Point) and say our goodbyes to the Whitsunday Islands.

The Whitsundays
We have loved every minute of being around the Whitsundays.  This was to be our destination before getting work in Townsville, so we really have seen what we came to see.  It’s been an eye opener in ways of beauty and serene. We have seen some amazing places and visited a number of the 97 islands and islets that the Whitsundays have to offer.  It really is one hundred nautical miles of tropical island paradise here and we have appreciated the magic of these islands, as they would have been by millions of others since being recorded in 1770 by James Cook.    The Whitsundays are actually two drowned mountain ranges cut off from the mainland by past geological events.  The islands have been divided into small groups, all of which we visited including The Whitsunday group, The Lindeman Group, The Anchor Islands and The Sir James Smith Group.

We have visited every open and closed resort around the Whitsundays including Hayman Resort, Daydream Island resort, South Molle Resort, Hamilton Island, Peppers Palm bay resort on Long Island, Long Island Resort, Hook Island resort, Lindeman Island resort, Brampton Island resort to name most and we both can say that even though some of these are really wonderful. We believe we are staying around the Whitsundays in the best possible accommodation that we could ever ask for.  Which is amongst them all on Mingo.

The Whitsundays has had so much to offer us and the abundance of wildlife everywhere we look really does make you keep your eyes peeled.  From the Whales, turtles and dolphins to the coral and coloured fish, to the snakes and iguanas and birds along the way.  There is no time to get board around here, as around the next island is a new place to venture to.  The Whitsundays has bought us a lot of joy and fun being here and seeing it by boat.  We know we are two of the lucky ones who have been fortunate enough to visit this area by water and one day we will return.
